A shallow alkaline lake, caustic enough to burn most animals that wade into it. The residents stand in it on purpose, all day. They are pink because of what they eat, they filter-feed with their heads upside down, and they sleep on one leg for reasons still being argued over.

A panda would stand in the water the right way up and be the wrong colour for it.
