Here is the actual problem with buying for an animal person at Christmas. They have a thing — foxes, raccoons, penguins, whatever it is — and everyone in their life knows about the thing. So by the time you get to them, they own the calendar, the socks, the mug with the pun on it, and a small pile of cute merchandise they feel obligated to display.
What they do not own is something that says a specific thing about them rather than just naming the animal. That is a much smaller category, and it is the one worth shopping in.
Everything below is under $40, printed to order, and built on the same premise: an animal that has ended up somewhere it does not belong. It is a joke about being out of place, which most people find applies to them more than they expected.
Under $10: the stocking filler that survives the year
Die-cut weatherproof vinyl stickers, $8 to $10 depending on size, in 3″, 4″ and 5″. Three or more takes 15% off automatically in the cart.
The reason stickers work better than most cheap gifts is that they get used. A laptop lid or a water bottle is a thing someone looks at every day, and the 5″ Trash Panda Sticker is sized to read from across a room. The Peeking Panda is the sneakier pick — a panda looking out over the rim of a trash can, best placed at the very edge of a screen where the peeking does the work.
If you are buying for two people in the same household, the Local Menace and Inner Peace badges are a matched pair and a running joke about which one of them is which.
$17: the mug, done properly
Every one of our 11oz mugs is printed the whole way around rather than as a patch on the front. This sounds like a detail and is not — most novelty mugs are half a mug, with a blank back that shows whenever the handle is turned the wrong way.
The safest choice when you genuinely do not know the person that well is The Swap: a panda on one side, a raccoon on the other, so it lands regardless of which half of the joke they identify with. The Play Dead / Nap Hard Mug is for the heaviest sleeper you know — an opossum fully committed to the performance next to a koala who is simply asleep, same result, wildly different effort.
For someone who has recently moved somewhere with entirely the wrong wardrobe, the Morning Migration Mug wraps a continuous scene of penguins crossing the desert and camels out on the ice. It is the widest composition we make.
$22: the gift that gets used weekly
Natural cotton canvas totes, 15″ by 16″, with the artwork printed directly onto the canvas rather than sitting on a glossy patch. Totes are the most-used gift in the shop for an obvious reason: they get carried rather than admired.
The Coat Check Tote shows an arctic fox and a fennec fox at the exact moment of trading coats, which makes it the right pick for a fox person specifically rather than an animal person generally.
$25–$38: for someone with a real apartment
Matte art prints in 12″ × 18″ ($25) and 16″ × 24″ ($38). Frames are not included, but both sizes fit standard off-the-shelf frames, which is worth knowing before you order.
This is the category to shop if the recipient has taste and opinions about their walls. Several of these prints play it completely straight from across a room and only give themselves up close, which makes them safe for a home that does not otherwise do jokes. The Impossible Ascent is the clearest example — an octopus summiting a peak, rendered in full cinematic detail, rock face and thin light, and from six feet away it reads as genuine mountain photography.
The Switchboard goes the other direction: a deadpan technical diagram of the great marsupial mix-up, labelled and routed like a real chart. It is the one that works in an office, above a desk where people expect an infographic and get this instead.
$32–$40: the main event
Unisex t-shirts at $32 and heavyweight crewnecks at $40, sizes S through 2XL.
The crewnecks are the better Christmas gift of the two, simply because December is when someone actually reaches for fleece. The Colony Transfer Crewneck — camels in homemade penguin tuxedos presenting identification at an Antarctic checkpoint — is the most-liked design we make.
On the tee side: Peak Performance for climbers and divers, Inner Peace for the friend with the meditation app, and Local Menace for the one who has never been the responsible party in a group chat.
One piece of practical advice about timing
Everything here is printed to order, which means 2–5 business days in production before it ships, then 3–7 business days in transit within the US. That is genuinely fine if you order with a couple of weeks of room, and genuinely not fine if you order on the 20th.
If sizing is the question on apparel, do not guess off the label. Lay flat a shirt they already like the fit of, measure it pit to pit and shoulder to hem, and email us those two numbers — we will tell you which size to order. The full method is on the Sizing & Fit page and it costs nothing to ask.
Free US shipping starts at $35. Browse the full Christmas collection, or narrow by budget: under $15, under $30, under $50.
